MARKETING MOVIES ONLINE LABS 2011

Over the course of two days, the 2011 Skillset-funded lab programme brought fifteen film companies and their projects face to face with leading digital marketing experts, who delivered a series of practical master-classes, case studies and presentations, designed to provide participants with the skills and experience needed to develop an online marketing strategy in support of their own projects.

At the end of the two-day period, participants pitched their digital marketing campaign to an industry panel, including Chris Collins, UK Film Council, Adam Rubins, Way to blue, Mark Higginson, iCrossing, Chris Bird and Jo Underhill, LOVEFiLM.com.

The 2011 winner of the pitch competition was Robert Cheek, from First Film Company, who won the top award of £20,000 worth of support, working with LOVEFiLM, Europe’s largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the internet and sending DVDs by post, and digital agency iCrossing to implement a campaign for their feature BOMBER, an adaptation of the classic WW2 novel by British author Len Deighton. A radical reinvention of the British WW2 film, BOMBER tells the stories of participants in a night-bombing raid from both sides, Allied and German, over a 24 hour period in 1943.

"We are delighted that a fast-growing and innovative company like LOVEFiLM shares our view of the commercial potential of BOMBER. We are keen to look at inventive ways of combining digital with traditional distribution to best meet a modern audience‟s demands, and we look forward to working with LOVEFiLM to use the power of digital to speak to the film‟s wide international audience" Robert Cheek, First Film Company

Jon Kluger from Vertigo Films was the runner up in the pitching competition and won a PR Campaign from Digital Communications agency, Way To Blue in support of their project GUINEA PIGS, the debut feature from award winning NFTS director and producer team Ian Clark and Megan Stuart Wallace, starring Alex Reid (THE DESCENT, MISFITS), Steve Evets (BRIGHTON ROCK, LOOKING FOR ERIC) and Aneurin Barnard (HONKY DORY, IRONCLAD).

“Diva's Marketing Movies Online seminar was great and we at Vertigo Films are thrilled to not only walk away with useful knowledge but a great prize from Way to Blue to help with the marketing of Guinea Pigs” Jon Kluger, Vertigo Films
